Maya sin fronteras is a local free publication, distributed monthly in my hometown Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo since December 2005, with a team 12 writers and a photographer.

As an art director my main goal is to take care of transmitting only local aesthetics, leaving out all the current stereotypes that populate mexican massive media. Most of the graphics are related with patterns that populate the local landscape in F. Carrillo Puerto and mayan culture.

The subjects of this publication are mainly local political issues, women rights, health & education systems issues, amongst others. What I consider the main value of this publication is that most of the content is produced by the community.

Since February 2009 we undertook the challenge of taking maya sin fronteras to the digital world in order to get use of the multimedia capabilities that this medium offer.

In 2003 I went to the Palais du Tokio in Paris and bought this book, I was very excited with this dolls, Gina makes such a nice work with her photographs. Later, in 2005 I even dare to send her some pictures of the diary!

I am not that sure of this small project anymore, but I still like the design, though if I did it again I will choose other subjet and print it properly.

I did my internship at Neo2 mag, while I was on an exchange program at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2003-2004 term.

I made some experiments with typography, illustration and editorial design while I was there.
