4th
Jan. × ’12

"It was really sweet James brought it from England to me."

How I did it: Jame got it for me in Englad, I told him he will convert me in to an alcoholic ;P, but it is true we only want it for when we go to gigs and the prices of drinks are offensive. No other time we will use it.

Lessons & tips: Only for whiskey and only for gigs, that will be the rule.

Resources: Hugs and happy utilitarian gifts

It took me 2 months.

It made me Happy

How to get a Vinçon calendar

Dec. × ’11

"After three years I changed"

How I did it: The Madrid Vinçon shop is closed :( , I guess they went out of business here because of the credcrunch, I thought about getting my calendar online, but just shiping was 10 euros so I said to wait until I bought over my trop to BCN.

Yesterday I went to MUJI and they had this lovely calendar with the names of the days in Japanese and it has space for writing stuff also uses less space in my desk, I like the hugeness of Vinçon but somehow no I feel like a waste of space and paper as I need to use post its for it and also they cover up the numbers.

Lessons & tips: Look for a calendar that suits you and that you can use it at home, write in it and such.

Resources: www.muji.es

It took me 3 weeks.

It made me satisfy

Artesanía Española de Vanguardia

Dec. × ’11

Tomorrow there is the presentation of a book that carries the title of this post, written by my friend Tachy Mora, experienced design journalist and one of my ex-boses girlfriend from my days working at Neo2. It is a bit sad that I can't assist because I have japanese test.

This book is really good in content. The first thing I would say is that I give me pretty great ideas for Christmas presents as it's full of amazing pieces made with special materials and many times by very particular hands.

It is pretty interesting to see how Tachy uses the word "Innovation" within handcrafts and remarks the importance of design bringing the innovative angle to them. Ranging from ceramics to fabrics, glass, leather, and other materials she talks about very well renown brands such as Loewe, Lladró, Teixidors, Majoral, ending with what are the new market proposals and projects that are currently about to germinate.

Tachy talks about how artisans incorporate Design in their process in such a way that helps them to find out and appeal to the new markets values, such a appeal comes from new or durable materials, ethical values, personalized aesthetics or even new business models.

I'll be glad to see such kind of compilation within the mexican handcrafts market, and I wish it was a bit of an enciclopedia.

Congratulations to Tachy for working on this piece.

The Truth

The truth of Mariana Abramovic

I am going to make a little break from my dissertation and talk about the video my friend Mariana sent me, of Mariana Abramovic conversation with Mike Figgis who I didn't know but it is the Director of "Leaving Las Vegas", he has a great collection of conversations there.

In this particular conversation Mariana talks about her Manifesto, where she says that have said honestly the truth.

  • Should not make idol from himself
  • Should not steal from another artis
  • Should not kill another human being
  • Should not fall in love with another artist (the only ones that have survived that are Gilbert & George)
  • Not commit suicide
  • Be depressed, because depression is a desease and it should be cured, but
  • An artist should suffer
  • Relation with solitude is very important
  • The organization of the funeral, should know the way you want to die
  • Not to repeat yourself
  • Not to overproduce

If you really have to weak up every morning thinking about your work, that is an artist, you don't even question it. A great artis is total sacrifice for his work.

To her one ideal way of dying is consciously and without fear... she makes a bizarre remark about most of artist dying in their toilets, after this she makes a whole conversation about death that I can just not handle right now, reflection on it a bit, even if the thought of dying is a part of life I just don't want to think about that right now.

Women  we don't like to sacrifice as much as men... want to have family, children and plus to be artist... bad news, you can't have both.

How many mean will bring hot soup to his wife for her creating some genius piece of work in the studio?

Women have very strong sexual energy that has to be transform in to creative energy.

Life is shorter and shorter, so hard has to become longer and longer.

Just the simplicity of being there and now. The need to be in the present is so enormous.

Art is like oxygen?

We only change with disaster...

Experience 1 to 1, that actually that makes a big difference as an individual, I am doing something to you, now.

365000 Artist leave in NY, as she speaks causing so much art pollution.

Error, shame, contradictions... etc my head is about to explote, certainly she closes saying something that reminds me to a quote I recently posted on my facebook.

"Read trashy gossip magazines and classics or sophisticated works; never the New York Times"
